Brand Handwriting

A brands handwriting is made up of different elements: colour; pattern; monogram; signature; letter form/font; media/material and product. Each brand is different for each element and when the brand wants to make a change they edit on or two of the elements.

Tiffany & Co and Liberty of London are well known for there specific colours as well as the font and products that they create. If you were just shown the colour or mentioned one of the elements of the brand you would be able to identify the link to the brand name. This is the same with Paul Smith and Burberry as they have a recognisable pattern that is identifiable. Burberry is a good example of this, as during the 90's they gained bad press due to the 'chavs' wearing fake versions of this making the pattern be linked to the wrong brand message. Therefore Burberry focused on other elements within their handwriting, (such as using the colour subtly), to try and gain the brand image they wanted to achieve again.
