London Research
As well as our research in Nottingham we were able to go down to London and achieve some more niche perfume market research.
Before we arrived I emailed a couple of niche market brands, however I only got a reply from one store, Bloom Perfumery in Shoreditch.
The store sells niche fragrances that all have a story behind them. We were able to have our own session in the store where we were taught about the story of each scent and how the scents themselves are used. We were also told how 'Perfume is an art itself' and the scent 'is like a reading book, first two chapters are top notes which lead the path to the story of the centre chapters, heart notes and the base notes are the summary and final opinion.
We also visited lots of other niche perfumeries all saying similar theories to how their niche scents sell, due to a story behind them. Illuminum Perfume was dark and intimate compared to bloom which was colourful and light. This may be due to Illuminums theory that they are the future of fragrance and where the developers of the Duchess of Cambridges scent for the Royal Wedding.
From our research we have decided on creating a niche scent brand that has individual scents based on their own story. We also want to have a scent that is not gender dependent as all stores we visited believed that scent 'is a matter of freedom' and there is 'no gender to fragrance'.
