Bright Lights and the Big City

3:00 pm

I have been extremely lucky to be able to see and experience lots of different cultures and cities but there is one city that I can't get enough of - New York.

Having dreamed of visiting the city that never sleeps, I jumped at the chance to head over back in January 2014 for a University trip. I was not disappointed. Everything was larger than life, from skyscrapers and personalities to stores and food.
However the time of year was not ideal. 2 pairs of gloves and no skin on show at all was required for the majority of the trip as we had been warned that frost bite could be a potential. This gave us a great excuse to stay in as many shops as possible, mainly Victoria's Secret, and take as many coffee breaks as we wanted.
We did get to enjoy a night view from the top of the Empire State, a near death experience in Brooklyn and an amazing night seeing Mamma Mia on Broadway followed by a rendition in Times Square. However due to the weather it did mean I missed out on a lot of what I wanted to do and see. From that point on I vowed that I would return to experience the city again, but maybe in the Summer this time.

During what was probably a drink fuelled conversation, I discovered I wasn't the only one who wanted to return. Then became the planing of a two-week, Gingers of Tour, end of Uni, American Trip, with New York first on the list.
I loved every second of my second experience in the city and we made sure that we did everything we wanted to do, along with doing some research before we went to find some unique places, such as Coney Island, CitiPups, Citi Field and The High Line.

After both visits I could honestly say I would be more than happy to visit again and the initial dream to visit the city has been developed into dreaming to live there.
