Diversity at New York Fashion Week

6:23 pm

After completing my last module, Diversity Now, I have been more aware of the lack of Diversity in Fashion. However there has been a huge step at New York Fashion Week, as disabled models have taken to the runway!
The Show's producer said they wanted to show that disability is very often just a mental state, by inviting disabled models onto the runway next to some of the best models on the scene.

So who was brave enough to take this big step, The FTL Moda's AW15 show with designers such as Antonio Urzi.  Antonio is well known for creating quirky consumes for the likes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga and felt that he wanted to show that having a disability shouldn't hold you back. He personally chose model, Jack Eyers, who became the first male amputee model to walk on the catwalk in a show. (shown below)

This step follows the step taken during Carrie Hammer's show last Thursday, in which American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer became the first woman with Down Syndrome to walk the runway.

Diversity may have taken a while to be shown in fashion, but it is coming and so it should!
