Are You Ready To Take Off?

The Chanel shows have been quickly developing since the introduction of Karl Lagerfeld in 1980 and even more so in keeping in line with current trends. We have seen an Airport, Restaurant, Supermarket and many other extravagant themes, but the Fall 2017 Paris show has truly out done them all - Space Travel.

'Chanel did something that we have never before witnessed, a rocket launch. Chanel’s double C–branded spacecraft was the centerpiece of the show and was surrounded by a raised silver runway and stadium seating. After the last model walked, a group gathered at the base of the rocket and it had a mock liftoff. Next stop, Trappist-1!'*
'On the runway, there were literal astronaut prints, lots of metallic and planet-shaped minaudières, but Lagerfeld also sent out subtler nods to the great era of space exploration, in the form of mod ’60s shift dresses and cap-toe go-go boots.' *
I love the extravaganza that Chanel put on for their couture shows as it allows their quirky but demure brand personality ooze from not only the delicate collection but the surroundings too. It's not just about the clothes you send down the runway anymore. You have to consider the models you use, the location, the theme and then everything involved in this such as the set-up and invites. It's an integrated show experience rather than just a collection preview.
