Divide and Conquer

10:00 pm

It may be National Kiss a Ginger Day, but there is one ginger who I'm sure many would want to kiss as he is back and taking the world by storm ... Ed Sheeran!

After taking a whole year away from the public eye, Ed has come back with a bang with both his new singles heading towards a 1, 2 in the UK Charts this week. However as much as I love Mr Sheeran, it's not the songs that have impressed me, it's the marketing around his comeback.

On the 13th Decemeber 2015, Ed posted the below image stating he was 'taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while.' When you see a while you think - oh that won't last surely - however I was completely wrong.

Nearly a year on and you hear that the X Factor winners single has been written by Ed. My thought - he's back! The next day (13th December 2016), exactly the anniversary of his last post a blank blue square - the suspense was unreal.

The choice of day for the next instalment - 1st January 2017, when everyone is feeling hungover and/or excited for the year to come, the smiling face of Ed Sheeran pops up to announce his new music was coming on the 6th January. Snippet videos were posted throughout the week leading to the release along with being replicated in tv advertising, starting with lyric videos then leading on to sound clips with potential album cover imagery.

Release day came and by the time I had woken up at 7am, Ed and his 2 new songs had already been circling the globe for two hours - who chooses 5am to release music? Something so random but so genius.

Since then he has once again created suspense for his upcoming album. Having previously released + with the colour orange and X with green, their was a suspicion that the next would have to be - or ÷ and from the blue square previously posted this must be the colour too.

From releasing the track list yesterday to the artwork, name and release date today, Ed and his team have created such a buzz for what is to come and I'm sure I speak for many in saying - I can't wait for the 3rd March!
