Oh Hello There

5:00 pm

It has been a month since I last posted at Farmer in Heels and as much as I have missed delving into exciting Experiential Marketing campaigns and creating Celebrity Fashion looks, I have been on an amazing trip to North America.

Before heading off I put together a When In Doubt, Travel set of posts and I'm so happy that I did. It was super helpful to have some sort of idea of all the places I wanted to visit as I know what we are like. Go all that way and still miss out on seeing something incredible. But none of the locations disappointed at all, with some amazing views and activities to keep you busy from morning to, well, morning.

Toronto

Toronto is such a beautiful city that I would advise to anyone to go and visit. Everyone is so friendly, chatty and approachable which makes it so much easier to get around and find fun places. One thing I definitely learnt was to always make sure you look up. So many restaurants or bars have rooftop lounges that give you great views of the city.
One thing you have to make sure you do if you head to Toronto, the Niagara Falls. We made sure we did it properly with a helicopter ride over the breathtaking sites followed by a trip on the Hornblower. Spoiler alert...make sure you actually wear your poncho properly as when they say you get a little wet that is a complete understatement.
Another beautiful little spot in a built up city is Sugar Beach. An old car park which has been transformed into an idilic location is a great place to sit, relax and watch planes fly into the Toronto Islands Airport.
Another amazing place you have to make sure you go to is the CN Tower. We were lucky enough to head up when the Blue Jays were playing below which was a great site, but even without that it was amazing being able to see for miles whilst the sun was setting.
Now I'm not great with heights but with floor below me all is okay, however a lift with a glass floor no thank you.

Chicago
Chicago is a great city, but you definitely need to make sure you know where you are going as safety is key. Something else that is important, weather changes. Chicago can go from being very lovely to windy and foggy pretty quickly, but I guess that's why it's called the Windy City.
Millenium Park is a great place to visit, not just for the famous Bean, but like any park there is so much more. An open air theatre and some incredible fountains whilst also being able to walk along the lake front.
If you're looking for a great summer restaurant that makes you feel like you're sitting along the beach then make sure you head to the Hampton Social. If you like pizza and Rose Wine, also make sure you head to the Hampton Social. Half price on both - it's the perfect location.
The Willis tower is incredible. On your journey up you are given the history of the building along with fun facts about how many Barack Obamas in height the building is (283) and you can also see 4 different states from the great height.
Now I know I said see through lifts and heights are not my thing, but when you've had a rose lunch you can power through most things. Just make sure you don't look down.
I know now if I hadn't have had the balls to do this I would be completely regretting it now.

Miami
Come to the Sunshine State they said. One of the funniest nights of the whole holiday and obviously the priorities of getting photos meant more than getting inside during a tropical thunderstorm.
Yes you go on holiday to enjoy yourself in the good weather but you have to make the most of a bad situation. If this means going to the beach in a bikini and a rain mac then so be it.
The Wynwood Walls Art District is so beautiful and completely different to the rest of Miami. It's a short Uber ride away from South Beach and definitely worth the trip. Wall Murals are a plenty and the shops, cafes and bars have also taken it upon themselves to join in too. Bright, colourful and just makes you smile.
We always said we wanted to treat ourselves to a fancy meal whilst we were in Miami and we made sure we did it good and proper in the Versace Mansion. The rooms were incredible and the food just as amazing and after you have eaten you are more than welcome to walk around and take a look at the rest of the property. Make sure, if you get the chance, head outside to see the beautiful fountain and garden area.
A great day trip in Miami is The Everglades. It's closer than you think and such a great experience to get on a hover craft and spot Aligators. Be prepared that it's not like the movies and they are not just swimming around near you, they are often hiding and there is every chance you might not even see any but being on the boat itself is a lot of fun.
If you didn't get a picture in front of a Beach Hut did you even go to Miami.
When the sun comes out to play, the beach is the only place to be in Miami. The sea is warm and clear and the perfect place to cool off after "tanning"* on the beach.
*more like a little bit of freckling and making sure you don't burn

Such an amazing holiday, but now it's back to the real world. Which is great because the real world is actually unbelievably sunny making it the easiest way to get over the holiday blues and jet lag.
