Street Style

All my worries about Street Styling has disappeared after viewing the film, Bill Cunningham New York. This man is so talented at what he does and at the age that he is doing it. At the age of 84 Cunningham is still in his trademark blue jacket, photographing 'people and the passing scene in the streets of Manhattan every day, focusing on their genuine usage of clothing to express personal style. He is known not to overly photograph celebrities or people that use fame to showcase clothing they didn't originally picked themselves'
The film was not only a great insight into fashion street style photography to help with our own brief it also showed the emotions and the loses that have escalated through his career. During the film you felt you were part of his work and were on the journey and to see him breaking down was emotional for us all, and when he accidentally cycled into the back of the taxi it could have been funny but really we were worried and wanted him to be okay.

Street Style-Nottingham

In smaller sub teams we had to conduct our own street style around Nottingham. During this we were set a treasure hunt task allowing us to not only visit different areas of Nottingham but distinguish different fashion tribes in each area or whether there even was one.
Map and treasure hunt answers, sadly we didn't win :(

Our first find was in the vintage shop, COW. This was probably the scariest part of the whole day, asking the first person and hoping we would get the response we wished for. Thankfully they did say yes and we got more and more confident as the day went on.
The team brief and also getting to understand Nottingham really collaborated well to allow for a successful outcome which was then presented on Pinterest. Our group ended up creating two boards: Nottingham Street Catwalk which was based on the basic street style full body shots, influenced by Bill Cunnigham to not only take still shots but moving shots too as this allowed the viewer to see exactly how the garment moved; Nottingham Shoe Catwalk which then focused on the tribes of shoes in Nottingham. We found that the majority of the public we obtained photos from were wearing trainers however not always portraying a matching sport like outfit and became a go to for girls to make an outfit less feminine and unique.

Feedback

I was pretty nervous on how exactly we would present our work and how we would get the message across to other people, but there was no need to worry. :) Categorising to find a tribe within the shoes was approved and told that the work we produced could have been paid for!
Overall the street style challenge allowed you individually to excel but also to gain team work skills with other pupils that you had never met before and therefore creating an interesting but successful outcome which I enjoyed completing.
To round off Street styling we watched another clip on how street styling had 'two salient trends...fashion editors frustrated by the ensuing commotion outside of shows, and the rise of "peacocking" street style stars as a result of the proliferation of blogs.'
